TUCSON, Ariz. – The #RV/RV Utah men's basketball team looks to right its ship with a tough battle up ahead against #10/10 Arizona this Saturday, Jan. 6. Daron Sutton will have the call alongside former Wildcat Matt Muehlebach – who will serve as the analyst on Pac-12 Networks beginning at 6 p.m. (MT) as the Runnin' Utes look to pick up their first win inside McKale Center since 1986.

Per the NCAA,
Branden Carlson is just 1-of-30 players with multiple 20-plus points in game thru games on Jan. 2 this season. Of those 30 players, only 10 hail from a power conference while 14 have at scored 20-plus points in the second half twice this season. However, Carlson is the only player to do so against two power conference opponents (20 vs. Wake Forest & 27 vs. Washington) in the second half.
BEST STARTS
Utah's 11-2 start to the year matched the 2015-16 squad and was the best start to a season in the
Craig Smith Era – which is in its third season. Smith and Co. opened last season 9-2.
AGAINST #10
Heading into its match-up against #10/10 Arizona, the Utes are 3-6 all-time against #10 ranked AP teams. Utah is 1-1 against Arizona when it's the #10-ranked team in the country with Utah defeating the Wildcats in OT at home back in 1975 and Arizona winning inside the McKale Center in 2015.

CARLSON APPROACHING SCHOOL RECORD

Branden Carlson will be cemented in the record book for, his first opportunity to take over the leaderboard will be in the blocks category where he currently sits in second after passing Luke Nevil. (205; 2005-09) at the Arizona State game for his 205th and 206th career block.
LAST TIME OUT
Utah had a tough time finding its rhythm on offense against Arizona State in its first road game of conference play, falling 82-70. The Runnin' Utes managed to shoot just 41.2-percent from the field while allowing the Sun Devils to shoot a .500 clip from the field – including a season-best 12 made 3-pointers. ASU took advantage of Utah's 15 turnovers, converting it into 15 points while also picking up an 18-8 edge in fast-break points.
Branden Carlson led the way for Utah with 19 points and 8 boards while
Deivon Smith put up a season-high 13 points in his fifth game with the Utes.
UP NEXT
The Utes return home for a quick split this upcoming week with UCLA coming to town on Thursday, Jan. 11, for a 7 p.m. (MT) tip inside the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Veteran play-by-play man Dave Pasch will call the action alongside former Wildcat Corey Williams as the Runnin' Utes look to secure their first win over the Bruins since March 9, 2019, in SLC and snap a seven-game losing skid.
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah will then get about 36 hours in SLC after its game versus the Bruins before hitting the road once again for a quick trip out to the Farm to take on the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday, Jan. 14, at 3 p.m. (MT) on Pac-12 Networks. Ted Robinson will guide fans through the action in Utah's final trip to Palo Alto for Pac-12 play while Casey Jacobsen serves as the analyst.
