IRVING, Texas – After assisting the Utes with a pair of shutouts against Houston and Baylor,
Brooklyn Blaylock was announced as the Big 12 co-Defensive Player of the Week, along with Texas Tech's Molly Skurcenski, the conference released Wednesday.
Blaylock added 180 minutes of playing time to her career totals this week, after the two-game week for Utah, marking the ninth and tenth game the Salt Lake City native has played the whole 90 minutes this season.
Holding down the midline, Blaylock led the Utah defense in both matches. Assisting the Utes with a 1-0 win over the Houston Cougars on Oct. 17, Blaylock and the back line only allowed two shots on goal.
On the pitch with Baylor, the Bears headed a corner kick to the edge of the net, but Blaylock was there to bump it out enough that senior goalkeeper
Kasey Wardle could punch it away, keeping the Bears scoreless and giving the Utes their second shutout of the weekend.
The Salt Lake Native is the fourth Ute to garner a Big 12 weekly title, but the first soccer student-athlete to earn the award for defense.
Blaylock and her teammates will be traveling to University of Colorado for their final match of the regular season on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 pm. on Prentup Field.
