SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah Football team fell 22-21 in the final seconds of the game to No. 9 BYU at home, suffering a heartbreaking loss by a field goal. Utah is 4-5 overall this season and 1-5 in Big 12 play.

Utah held a 21-13 lead heading into the fourth quarter against the Cougars, but BYU would score on a one-yard rushing touchdown with 12:35 to go in the game to make it a two-point game.

With less than two minutes to play, Utah stopped the Cougars on a fourth-and-10 with an eight-yard sack, but a late thrown flag would give BYU an automatic first down. The Cougars went on to run down the clock while also driving to Utah's 26-yard line, scoring a 44-yard field goal with three seconds left to claim the win.

Utah finished the game with 259 yards of total offense, which included 112 passing and 147 rushing. The Utes were also 6-for-12 on third down conversions while holding BYU to just 1-of-12.

GAME LEADERS
Brandon Rose finished the game 12-of-21 passing for a career-high 112 yards and two touchdowns, adding 55 yards rushing. Micah Bernard added 78 yards rushing on 17 carries, also catching two passes for six yards and a touchdown.

Dorian Singer led the Utes with five catches for 76 yards (15.2 ypc) while Brant Kuithe added four receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown. Kuithe also had two rushes for two yards and a rushing score.

On defense, Karene Reid led the team with eight stops, which included 2.0 tackles for loss, a sack and a pass breakup. Lander Barton also contributed seven tackles (1.0 TFL) with two pass breakups while Zemaiah Vaughn chipped in four tackles that included a career-best 3.0 tackles for loss.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Micah Bernard eclipsed the 2,000 rushing yards mark tonight with his 78 yards against the Cougars, giving him 2,068.
Brant Kuithe scored the 22^nd receiving touchdown of his career, which ranks third all-time at Utah.
Kuithe scored both his rushing and receiving touchdowns in the second quarter, the first time a Ute has done so in the same quarter since 2012 (John White vs. Washington State).
Utah held the Cougars to just three yards rushing in the second quarter, the third time this season that the Utes have held an opponent to five or less yards in a quarter.
