SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah baseball program was recognized by the American Baseball Coaches Association this week with the Team Academic Excellence Award. Presented to the Utes for the third straight season, the honor is given to programs with a team cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher for the recently-completed school year.
Â
The Utes had a team GPA of 3.27 and were one of six Pac-12 clubs to be honored. Among the Big 12 membership for next season, Utah was included among eight schools receiving the award.
Â
All told, the 2024 season was one of monumental strides for the Utes, with the team recording 33 wins—tied for the second-most in program history. The team had four Pac-12 All-Conference First Team selections, tying the most by the program as a member of the league and headlined by
Bryson Van Sickle, the team's first conference Pitcher of the Year.
Â
The team's academic accolades were headlined by Pac-12 Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Randon Hostert. Five Utes were named CSC Academic All-District, including Hostert and right-handed pitcher
Merit Jones. Jones was one of three players on the team selected in this year's MLB Draft, the most for Utah since 2017.
