Colter McAnelly Named Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week

Sophomore helped Utah to an Opening Day win and eventual four-game sweep
IRVING, Texas – University of Utah sophomore right-hander Colter McAnelly has been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon.
McAnelly delivered a six-inning Opening Day start last Friday at Pepperdine as the Utes eventually won in extra innings, before ending the weekend with a four-game sweep. Although McAnelly received a no-decision, he held the Waves to one run on two hits and one walk while striking out four.
He was unfazed by a leadoff home run in the first inning, retiring 16 of his next 18 batters faced (one was a walk, the other reached on an error). Other than the home run, Pepperdine never got a runner past second base with McAnelly on the mound. It kept Utah in position to eventually take a 3-1 victory.
The weekend as a whole was solid for the Utah pitching staff, coming away from the Pepperdine series with a 1.95 earned run average. That tally ranks third in the Big 12 at this early point in the season.
