McAnelly Wins Third Big 12 Pitcher of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Utah sophomore right-hander Colter McAnelly has been named the Big 12 Conference Pitcher of the Week for a third time, the league announced on Monday afternoon. The native of Cheyenne, Wyoming, also took home the weekly honor from the league on Feb. 18 (shared) and Feb. 25.

McAnelly went eight innings in a combined shutout win this past Friday, as Utah took down Big 12 preseason favorite Oklahoma State in the series opener. He tied the Utah program record with 12 strikeouts—which were also the most this season in a conference game by a Big 12 pitcher.

It was his fourth quality start in six total outings. He held the Cowboys to three walks and five hits on the night--including just one hit with runners on base. In a lineup with five left-handed hitters plus a switch hitter, he limited Oklahoma State to a 1-for-18 night when batting from the left side.

Utah went on to win the rubber match on Sunday to secure its first Big 12 Conference series victory.

McAnelly is the first player to win three Big 12 Pitcher of the Week awards in the same season since 2022. He enters this week ranked among the league leaders in innings pitched (1st; 40.1), ERA (4th; 2.23) and opponent batting average (4th; .183).

The Utes will hit the road to St. George, Utah, to take on Utah Tech for a midweek game on Tuesday at 4 p.m. MT. Then the team will be back home for another conference series against the Arizona State Sun Devils, running from March 28-30 at Smith's Ballpark.
