SALT LAKE CITY – Utah cross country and track & field head coach
Kyle Kepler announced the promotion of
Rebecca Rhodes to associate track & field head coach after four and a half seasons at Utah.
Â
"I'm excited to promote Coach Rhodes to associate track & field head coach," said Kepler. "She has done a terrific job of elevating multiple events with international, national and regional success. She has assisted me in promoting my vision and raised the standard of excellence within the track & field program."
Â
Since her arrival, the sprints, hurdles, jumps and multis group has seen rapid improvement while also rewriting both the indoor and outdoor record books. In addition, Rhodes also guided Utah's 4x400m relay team to its first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2024 and then again in 2025 while also coaching the program's first 4x100m relay team to the NCAA Championships the following year in 2025.
Â
Individually, Rhodes coached four individual qualifiers at the outdoor championships in Josefine Eriksen, Dinedye Denis and Harley Daniel. Eriksen earned Second-Team All-America honors in the 800m run in 2024 and was an honorable mention recipient in 2022. Meanwhile, Denis (2023) and Daniel (2024) both garnered honorable mention selections in the 400m hurdles.Â
Â
"I feel truly honored and grateful for this promotion," Rhodes said. "I can't thank Coach Kepler and our administration enough for believing and recognizing the growth in both me and the sprints/hurdles/jumps side of the program. I am also very thankful for the mentors who have helped shape who I am as a coach, the athletes who have trusted me with their growth and my friends and family who have supported me in my coaching journey. Salt Lake City has very quickly become my home, and I feel blessed every day that I get to do something I love in such a beautiful place. I am excited by the growth of our program thus far but even more excited for what is to come."
Â
The 2025 outdoor season was a banner year for the Women of Utah with a program-high 16 entries at the NCAA West Regionals. Of those 16 entries, six of came from the sprints side of things, including the first-ever 4x100m relay group to qualify for the regionals. In total, Rhodes has coached 18 regional qualifiers and four NCAA Championship participants.
Â
Rhodes' athletes have also competed on the world stage with Eriksen (NOR) running in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris and World Championships the last two years. Denis (CIV) and
Emily Martin (CAN) have also competed for their respective national teams on the world stage, running against each other in the latest World Championships in Tokyo in the fall of 2025.
