SALT LAKE CITY –
Jolie Mayfield,
Kennedy Proctor,
Shonty Passi and
Cian Noli all blasted home runs as the University of Utah softball team romped over the Weber State Wildcats, 13-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Dumke Family Softball Stadium in Salt Lake City.
Utah's 2026 record is now 25-8.
"I was really impressed with the way we competed with two outs today," said coach
Amy Hogue. "We had nobody on and two outs in the first inning and Danika started things off with a walk. Before you knew it, we had batted through the lineup and had six runs on the board. As long as we had an out to work with, we kept competing to score."
The offensive fireworks started in the very first inning, when the Utes loaded the bases on three straight walks.
Payton Crank singled in one run and a Noli hit knocked in two more. That brought up Mayfield, who clobbered a 2-2 pitch to left-center for her first homer of the year and a 6-0 Utah lead.
In the second, Proctor started another barrage with a lead-off dinger and Passi followed two batters later with a solo shot of her own. After a walk to Crank, Noli hit a towering fly to left for her second round-tripper of the year and a 10-0 advantage.
The Utes added to their edge with a
Danika Wilson RBI single in the third and a
Hailee White sacrifice fly and
Mia Gomez run-scoring double in the fourth. Gomez's hit extended her on-base streak to 33 consecutive games.
The Utah pitching staff spent the day silencing Weber State's bats.
Shelbee Jones improved to 9-3 and lowered her ERA to 1.34 with four shutout frames. She permitted only three hits and struck out two before giving way to
Hailey Maestretti, who concluded the afternoon with a scoreless fifth.
"I thought Shelbee threw a clean game and Maestretti really came in and spun the ball well," said Hogue. "We didn't pick it up well but still found a way to get the shutout. We are going to need to clean up those mistakes because lots of teams will cash those in for runs against us."
