Prior to Utah: Barrera was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Bishop Amat High School with a career .447 average,- 152 hits, 100 runs, 35 doubles, 14 triples, and nine home runs. She was named First Team Premier Girls Fastpitch and a MaxPreps All-American as well as a First Team Cal Hi Sports All-State, All-Area and All-League selection. Barrera, the Del Rey League Most Outstanding Player batted .474 on the strength of 15 doubles, five triples and three home runs. She led the team to their second straight CIF-Southern Section semifinals appearance.
The previous year, she batted .458 and was also named All-State, All-Area and All-League. In total, she won three national championships with her club teams including the 2016 18U Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship with Firecrackers-Rico. A 2016 PGF High School All-American, Barrera was listed as the No. 10 recruit in the country by FloSoftball.com.
Personal: Alyssa is the daughter of Ed and Lisa Barrera. She earned her bachelor's degree from Utah in the spring of 2020 in Communications, with a minor in Business, and completed her master of science in Information Systems in the summer of 2021. Her father played high school football with Utah's Director of Football Operations Jeff Rudy. Her father went on to play at Chaffey College while her uncle played college baseball at Cal Poly Pomona and was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 1991. She has two siblings, Diego, who plays baseball at Loyola Marymount (previously at the University of Washington and Mt. San Antonio College), and Daniel, who was a commit to the University of the Pacific.
