Dr. Rob Clark joined Utah Athletics in September 2022, bringing two decades of progressive leadership in college athletics, previously serving as senior deputy athletics director at San Jose State.
In his role at the U, Clark leads Utah's Crimson Club, which includes major gifts and annual giving. Since 2022, the Crimson Club has recorded its highest number of members and dollars raised in three consecutive years with a revenue growth of 233% since arriving to Utah. Clark has led the launch several successful initiatives for the Crimson Club: The Champions Alliance, the top donor society, whose investors have given over $50 million since June 2023, and The Legacy Society, an estate giving recognition to grow long-term sustainable funding, which was launched by a $14 million anonymous gift to women’s sports—the second largest gift in Utah Athletics history.
Clark also has led the ticket sales teams to record attendance at Football (vs. USC in 2022 and Florida in 2023) and Men’s Basketball (fourth-highest attended game in Huntsman Center vs. BYU in 2023). He serves as an Executive Committee member of the National Association for Athletic Development Directors (NAADD).
At San Jose State, Clark ran the day-to-day operations of Athletics, the revenue generation and external relations teams while serving as a sport administrator for several Mountain West championship programs. He led the successful launch of One Spartan Nation, which doubled donor membership and led the major gift efforts for a $65 million football facility, baseball practice facility and soccer stadium. Clark also was integral in securing the largest sponsorship/multimedia rights partnership for SJSU Athletics. He also served as the sport administrator for football, women’s gymnastics, baseball, women’s tennis and men's golf. Clark also served on the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee.
Prior to San Jose State, Clark served for five years as Long Beach State University’s executive senior associate athletics director where he led the development and external relations teams and was the sport administrator for Dirtbags Baseball and Men’s Basketball. Clark and his team secured naming rights for LBSU’s baseball stadium, collected record fundraising and sponsorship partnerships, and collected the highest ticket sales revenue in LBSU’s history. These efforts helped LBSU win multiple championships while constructing multiple facilities.
Clark had previously served as the senior associate AD for development at Georgia State University, the assistant AD for major gifts at the University of New Mexico, the associate AD of development at Angelo State University, and special assistant to the senior associate AD at Texas A&M. He also worked as a financial consultant for athletics departments around the nation moving up to Division I.
Clark played football at Utah State before finishing his career at Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he was named a team captain. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Occidental and earned his Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
Clark and his wife Emily have three children: Annie, Kate and McCoy. He is a Salt Lake City native and his family includes four generations of Utah Utes: His parents Heidi (tennis) and Bob (football), grandfather “Bunny” (football) and great-grandfather Rulon (who captained the 1915-16 AAU Champion Utah basketball team). Emily’s family includes two Utah Football alums, Jeff Jonas and All-American Marwin Jonas.
