SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Andre Miller scored 16 points as Utah survived an early scare and then cruised to a 74-49 victory over Ripon College on Saturday night.
Ripon (4-2), a Division III school from Wisconsin, surprised the sluggish Utes (10-4) by scoring the first eight points of the game. Utah's first field goal came when Miller hit a jumper in the lane 6:14 into the game.
The Red Hawks' last lead was 18-15 after a layup by Adam Zakos with 7:12 left in the first half. On the ensuing possession, Utah's Hanno Mottola drained a 3-pointer as Andy Van Wie of Ripon was whistled for a foul underneath. Jeremy Killion made a 3-pointer on the out-of-bounds play for a rare six-point play and Utah never trailed again on the way to its sixth straight victory.
0 Despite shooting just 33 percent for the half, the Utes ended the half with an 11-1 run for a 34-23 lead.
Bret VanDyken paced Ripon with 17 points, while Matt Becker added 10.
The Utes outrebounded the smaller Red Hawks 41-16.
The victory extended Utah's home winning streak to 28 games, fifth longest in the nation. In seven home victories this season, the Utes have a 24.7 average margin of victory. Only one opponent, Weber State, has scored more than 55 points.
Killion scored 14 points before leaving late in the game with an ankle injury. Mottola had 11 points before fouling out with 10:07 remaining.
