BERKELEY, Calif. - In a Monday afternoon match at Hellman Tennis Center on the Berkeley campus, the University of Utah men's tennis team dropped its fourth match of the season, 6-1.
The Golden Bears won the doubles point, as well as five of six singles points to tally the 6-1 win.
In doubles play, the Utes took one of the three matches, as Ben Coates and Trevor Ferguson defeated Scott Kintz and Ivan Dmytruk at the No. 1 slot, 8-4. Cal's Adrian Barnes and Chris Lewis swept Nik Yip and Ashley Dyer, 8-0, and David Tzou and Andrey Vinogradsky delivered in the third slot over Adam Eke and Ryan Snow, 8-6, to capture the doubles point for the Golden Bears.
The only Utah win in singles play came at the No. 2 position as red hot Ashley Dyer downed Erik Dmytruk, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 to improve his dual record to 5-1. The rest of the Utes lost straight down the line. Barnes topped Coates, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, while Kintz outplayed Ferguson, 6-4, 6-3 at. No. 3. The No. 4 match featured Lewis taking Patrick Wallebring in straght sets, 6-2, 6-2. Vinogradsky defeated Eke, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, at No. 5, while Tzou wrapped the Utes up at No. 6 by topping Yip 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The sun doesn't come up tomorrow for Utah, as they travel north to take on Stanford, the nation's No. 1 team.
