SALT LAKE CITY— The Utah Utes men's tennis team will take on No. 11 Baylor in the first round of the Big 12 tournament at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Flo. The match is set to begin at 8 am MST on Wednesday, April 15th.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
Baylor is coming off a 23-11 overall record in the 2025 season. Baylor went 6-2 in conference matches last season. The Bears see a returner in senior Quintan Van Wijik, who had an overall singles record of 18-2. Van Wijik was 12-6 in doubles play last season. The Bears are currently 21-8 in its official 2026 season.
THE UTES
The Utah men's tennis program returns senior Dante Teramo. The Utes also welcome back junior Emmett Potter. Utah has one sophomore returning to the squad in Charles Frey. The Utes welcome five newcomers with two transfers in Lorenzo Esquici and Simeon Terziev and three new true freshmen in AJ Deem, Oliver Mesicek, and Balthazar Huss.
NEWCOMER MAKING WAVES
The new sophomore transfer Simeon Terziev is making waves in his first season as a Ute. Terziev has a 9-5 overall singles record. Simeon is undefeated when playing in the No. 5 spot. Terzive holds a 6-4 record when at the No. 3 spot and a 2-1 record when at the No. 4 spot.
LAST TIME OUT
The Utah men's tennis team defeated in-state foe BYU 4-3 in their last game of the regular season. It was a battle in doubles action, with Utah taking the win at the No. 3 spot and BYU taking the win at the No. 1 spot. BYU took the doubles point advantage getting the win at the No. 2 spot. In singles play Utah railed and won in the No. 2, No. 3. No. 4, and No. 6 spot to clinch a comeback victory against the Cougars.
HEAD COACH ROELAND BRATEANU
The Utah men's tennis team welcomed back Roeland Brateanu for his twelfth season as head coach. Brateanu coached the team to a historic 2022-2023 season, earning their first Pac-12 Regular Season Title. Prior to that season, Brateanu led the team to an 18-0 record in the 2021 season and finished ranked in No. 50 in the Oracle/ITA finale ranking. Brateanu currently holds an overall record of 190-120 at Utah.

With a win, Utah will advance to the quarterfinals to face No. 2 seed TCU on Friday at 1 p.m. MDT.
