SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Utah baseball team was defeated 4-3 in a 10 inning contest with San Jose State. The Utes had three runs on eight hits with one error while the Spartans had four runs on 12 hits with one error.
The loss brings the Utes to a 18-21 record with a 6-12 Western Athletic Conference mark. San Jose State is 20-22-1 with a 10-10 WAC record. Senior Ryan Hilts was 2-4 with one RBI.
Eric Wallace was 1-4 hitting his 12th home run of the season and sophomore Jed Chrisman was 1-4 hitting a double. Brett McDermaid pitched eight innings for the Utes. Brandon Ballard (1-2) picks up the loss however pitching the last two innings.
The Utes and the Spartans finish the three-game series tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. at Municipal Stadium in San Jose, Calif.
