SALT LAKE CITY - Utah basketball head coach Rick Majerus has been named DIRECTV's advertising spokesman for its college basketball pay-per-view package, ESPN FULL COURT, for the 1999-2000 season.
Majerus will appear in both print ads and television commercials produced by DIRECTV, which will be shot in San Diego on June 23. The television spots will be aired throughout the 1999-2000 college basketball season beginning in September. The ESPN FULL COURT package offers viewers out of market games from the new Mountain West Conference, as well as the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, Big East and SEC.
"When it came down to choosing the guy to do this, we knew that we wanted Rick," said Andy Feffer, manager of sports marketing for DIRECTV. "Rick's done some other things before for ESPN, and he's great at it. He is a guy that people recognize and he has a great personality. Rick was also appealing to us because he should have another great team this year at Utah. He's a great guy to work with, and he is genuinely excited about doing this project with us."
Majerus and Feffer are still collaborating on the concept of the commercials, but Feffer added, "I can assure you that they'll be entertaining. He is a very funny guy, and his charm really comes through on the air."
