SALT LAKE CITY-The University of Utah women's volleyball team defeated the Air Force Falcons in a quick three game match-up, 15-7, 15-7, 15-9 at Crimson Court on Sat., Oct. 14. Utah improves to 15-3 overall, 6-1 in the MWC. Air Force drops to 6-12 on the season, 0-7 in Mountain West Conference play.
Utah unloaded its bench with all 15 players seeing action in the match. Junior Alisa Geddes led the Utes with 13 kills, 12 digs and three total blocks. Sophomore Brenda Beal posted 10 kills for a .467 hitting percentage in two games, while freshman Kim Turner had eight kills for a .615 hitting percentage and three total blocks. Senior setter Lucie Turkova had 40 assists and 10 digs and freshman Jackie Morrill posted nine digs, respectively. As a team Utah hit for .277 and racked up 10 total team blocks.
For the Falcons, freshman Delavane Diaz totaled 11 kills and 12 digs. Kristin Huitt and Abby Martinson split time at the setter position and combined for 30 assists. Teammate Brandi Raifsnider posted 10 digs in the match. Air Force hit for .104 and managed three total team blocks.
"We played everyone on the roster and we executed very well tonight," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "We started looking at different offensive strategies and sometimes it takes a match like this to try and work on some of those things. This match gave us a significant chance to get some of the other players in without upsetting the flow of our system. "
UP NEXT: On Fri., Oct. 20, Utah travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on the Rebels of UNLV. Utah will match-up with San Diego State on Sat., Oct. 21 in San Diego, Calif. Utah is back at home on Fri., Oct. 27, when they take on the Rams of Colorado State at 7:00 p.m. On Sat., Oct. 28, Utah will face MWC opponent Wyoming at Crimson Court at 7:00 p.m. Utah will match-up again with BYU, in Provo, Utah, at 7:00 p.m. (MST) on Fri., Nov. 3. Utah travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. on Fri., Nov. 10, taking on the Air Force Falcons at 7:00 p.m. (MST). On Sat., Nov. 11, Utah will face MWC opponent New Mexico in Albuquerque, N.M. at 7:00 p.m. (MST).
