The University of Utah tennis team finished up competition in the final day of the BYU Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Utes were riding on the performances of Nik Yip and Kevin Zenger as the tournament rolled into the semifinal round.
Yip was scheduled to play Mark Roberts from Boise State University in the 10:00 a.m. match, with the winner advancing to the finals. Yip came away victorious early, jumping out on top with 4-6 victory in the first set. Roberts, though, evened the match by winning the second, and continued to shut Yip out in the third. Roberts advanced to the finals, where he fell to BYU's Gert Vilms.
Zenger lost in his first match-up of the tournament, but battled back to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket to face Mahmoud Rezk from BSU. Rezk took control of the match, as Zenger fell 4-6, 3-6.
The Utes will be back in competition Oct. 25-29 at the Rolex ITA Region VII Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.
