The University of Utah women's softball team defeated San Diego State, 3-1 and 12-5, on the road on Fri., Mar. 31. Utah improves to 21-15-0 overall, 2-0 in MWC play, while San Diego State drops to 17-21 overall, 0-2 in the MWC.
In game one, senior Nicole Wilkinson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Sophomore Molly McLean went 2-for-4 with one run and freshman Nikki Hayhurst was 2-of-3 with an RBI. Kristin Arbogast recorded the win for the Utes, pitching seven innings, giving up only two hits, one run one walk and struck out four.
In game two, Utah had 17 hits, four walks and 11 RBI against the Aztecs. Nikki Hayhurst was a perfect 5-of-5 from the plate, with a double, one run and five RBI. Molly McLean was an impressive 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. Senior Sunny Smith was 2-of-5 with two runs and an RBI. Arbogast upped her record to 20-12 overall, pitching four innings, giving up five hits, four runs and two walks. Teammate Jeanette Herbert came in relief, holding the Aztecs to zero walks, one run and five hits.
Coming Up: Utah travels to Las Vegas, Nev. to take on the Rebels of UNLV on Sun., Apr. 2 in a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. (PST). Utah will take on Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. at 2:00 p.m. (DH) (MST) on Fri., Apr. 7.
