Utah Softball Splits Doubleheader With Utah State

Logan, Utah - Utah and Utah State split a softball double-header in Logan, Utah on Wed., Apr. 12, with the Utes claiming the first contest 3-1 and the Aggies winning the nightcap 8-7 in eight innings. Utah moves to 25-19 overall, 5-3 in the MWC. Utah State is now 15-26 overall.

In game one, senior Lisa Hashimoto-Hall was 2-of-4 with two runs. Teammates Sunny Smith and Lyndsey Trevis each had a hit in the game. Kristin Arbogast went the distance, giving up only five hits, one run, four walks and struck out eight. The Utes scored in the first and third innings and then padded their lead to 3-0 in the fifth inning. Utah State responded with one run in its half of the fifth, but could not score again.

In game two, Utah State scored first with four runs in the first inning. Utah came right back at Utah State with back-to-back home runs by Lyndsey Trevis, Jenny Monson and Nikki Hayhurst to pull within 4-3. Utah State pushed its lead to 7-3 with three more runs in the second inning, but the Utes forced the game into extra innings by scoring one run in the fifth, two in the sixth and another home run by Lyndsey Trevis in the seventh as the Aggies were scoreless in the rest of regulation. Utah was held scoreless in the eighth inning, and Utah State's Eva DeJarnette had the game winning hit for the Aggies. Jeanette Herbert took the loss for the Utes. Utah had 12 hits in 34 at bats, with seven runs and seven RBI. Utah State had 16 hits in 36 at bats with eight runs and seven RBI.

Coming Up: Utah travels to Provo, Utah to take on the Cougars of BYU on Sat., Apr. 15 in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. (MST). Utah will take on Southern Utah in Cedar City, Utah at 2:00 p.m. (MST) on Tues., Apr. 18. Utah is at home for the remainder of its season, taking on the UNLV Rebels on Fri., Sat. 21 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) (MST). The Utes face San Diego State on Sat., Apr. 22 in a doubleheader match-up at 12:00 p.m. (MST). On Wed., Apr., 26, Utah plays Southern Utah in a single-game contest at 2:00 p.m. (MST). Utah hosts New Mexico on Fri., Apr., 28 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) (MST) and Colorado State on Sat., Apr. 29 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) (MST). The Utes finish their regular season at home vs. Brigham Young in a single-game match-up at 12:00 p.m.
