SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team is 23-27 with a 13-14 Mountain West Conference record to place them fourth in conference rankings behind New Mexico (20-7), San Diego State (16-10) and Brigham Young (14-13). In their last league series, the Utes took New Mexico 2-1 winning 12-11 and 9-4, while dropping the final game 12-8.
Up this Week
The Utes round out the 2000 season with a three-game series against Air Force May 11-13 at Franklin Covey Field. All games begin at 12:00 p.m. On Saturday, a special presentation will honor Utah's four graduating seniors: Brandon Page, Jared Cavaness, Jake Shortino and Jamie Hardy.
Utes in the Mountain West
Utah leads the conference with 63 home runs and 25 triples. The Utes are also ranked second in the league with a .513 slugging percentage and are third with 127 doubles and 881 total bases. Weese also tied the Utah home run record with the feat. He has a .333 batting average and leads the Utes with 12 home runs, 56 RBI and 68 hits so far this season. In the conference, Weese is tied for second in home runs and RBI. He is third in the league with six triples and 204 at bats and comes in fourth with 129 total bases. He also ranks fifth with a .632 batting average and sixth in hits. In the field, Weese leads the conference with 520 chances, 483 putouts and 48 double plays.
Swingin' Swenson
Centerfielder Sam Swenson leads Utah with seven triples, 19 doubles and a .668 slugging percentage. He is second for the Utes with a .342 batting average, 66 hits and 10 home runs. In the field, Swenson has a .975 fielding percentage from 118 putouts and only three errors. The junior leads the Mountain West Conference in triples and is tied for third in home runs. He also ranks fourth in doubles and slugging percentage, fifth with 54 runs scored, sixth with 193 at bats and 10th with a .439 on base percentage.

Pitcher Jared Cavaness leads Utah 46 strikeouts and 95.1 innings pitched. He has made 15 appearances for Utah including four complete games. He posts a 5.76 ERA and is 4-6 so far this season. Cavaness is second in the conference in innings pitched and 15 games started. He also ranks fourth with a .297 opponent batting average and is ninth in ERA.
