SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's soccer team (7-3-1) earned its sixth straight victory, downing Boise State (3-5-1) 4-1 at Ute Field. Utah scored only 1:50 into the game when junior scoring leader Amy Kofoed headed in a ball from sophomore Shauna Gurr and freshman Amber Brower. Utah rode the 1-0 lead to halftime, before going up 2-0 when Brower connected on her second goal of the season on a pass from sophomore Jen Wiliams in the 51st minute. The Broncos closed the gap five minutes later when Maureen Meyer put the ball into the top shelf of the Ute goal. Freshman Missy Dennis rebounded a penalty kick by Shauna Gurr for a back-breaking goal in the 78th minute. Kofoed tacked one on for good measure in the 83rd minute when sophomore Maren Harper broke through midfield and led her out in front of the net. Goalkeeper Courtney Hills surrendered the lone goal with three saves to earn another win. "The whole team has stepped up together," said Kofoed of the elevated level of play through the last six games. "Nobody is playing like we are a young team anymore. Everybody has enough games under their belts at this level now and we've all stepped up together." Utah puts the six-game winning streak on the line Saturday against No. 10 Southern California at 1 p.m. at Ute Field. The game against the Trojans is the last non-conference game of the regular season. "Saturday is a big game," said Coach Amy Winslow. "I want us to get in, compete and get them under pressure. My prediction is that it will be a tight and hard fought game."
