Last Weekend Rewind
Utah went 1-2 against the Arizona Wildcats, with both losses coming by one-run. Friday Utah allowed the Wildcats four runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh to take the lead 8-6 before holding on for an 8-7 win. Arizona got a school record three home runs from Shelley Duncan.
Saturday the Utes had a comeback of their own, scoring three times in the ninth to pick up the 6-4 win. Mike Westfall had a two-run single in the ninth that gave Utah the lead.
On Sunday it was again Arizona's turn to rally for a win. After trailing 4-2, the WIldcats crossed the plate three times in the seventh, then shut down the Utes to pick up a 5-4 win. Utah outhit the WIldcats 10-8, but left 10 runners on base and committed two errors.
Utah Tidbits
With a hit in all three games against Arizona, Donnie Saba improved his hitting streak to a team high 11-games. He finished with four hits in the series, including his third home run of the season on Sunday.
Mitch Maio made two appearances against the Wildcats, giving him a team high six. Against Arizona he pitched 3.2 innings while allowing only one hit. He lowered his ERA to 1.15, good for second on the team.
Saturday Matt McAfee picked up his second save of the year. He threw the final inning of the Utes' 6-4 win against Arizona and allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out two. In 6.2 innings of work this season, McAfee hasn't allowed an earned run and has held opposing hitters to a .087 batting average.
Mike Westfall leads the Utes with his .394 batting average and .591 on-base percentage. Westfall has had al least one hit in 14 of the Utes 16 games this season. He currently has a five-game hitting streak and had an eight-game streak earlier this season.
