SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - After tough losses to nationally ranked Cal-Berkeley and Stanford last week, the University of Utah men's tennis team recuperated with a 6-1 win over Denver on Tuesday. The Utes improve to 9-11 in dual play this season.
Utah swept the doubles point to take an early advantage over Denver. Nicholas Yip and David Mercier were victorious, 8-1, in their match from at the No. 1 position. Daniel Carlsson and Tyler Poulson won from the No. 2 position, while Kevin Zenger and Corrie Scheepers won at No. 3.
Utah won five-of-six doubles matches, losing only at the No. 3 spot where Scheepers was forced to default. Mercier controlled the No. 1 position by defeating Boris Turkic, 6-2 and 7-5. Zenger, Yip, Carlsson and Poulson all won in straight sets to contribute to the Utes 6-1 victory.
The Utes will wrap up the season at home against Montana on Apr. 12, before hosting the Mountain West Conference Championships Apr. 26-28.
