SALT LAKE CITY - Nate Althoff, who concluded his career at the University of Utah this spring, has been named to the Dallas Mavericks summer league roster. Althoff was one of five players that made the cut from 20 invited to the Mavericks' tryout camp. He is one of 13 players who will play for Dallas this summer.
Althoff, a 6-11, 265-pound center from Delano, Minn., averaged 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Utes last season. He also shot 61.2 percent from the field and had 18 blocked shots, playing in all 31 games. Alhtoff finished his career ranked first in field goal percentage (.608) and fifth in blocked shots (92) at Utah.
"Coming in I knew that he was coached by Rick Majerus in an excellent program at Utah and he was fundamentally sound," said Mavericks assistant coach Sidney Moncreif, who is the head coach of the summer league team. "He has a big body on him and had a bearing interest to learn the game of basketball. He's a very intelligent player and had a pretty good feel of what you were looking for after you told him what to do. He has a lot of potential to be a banger inside for our summer league team."
Dallas will compete in the Rocky Mountain Revue at Salt Lake Community College later this month, as well as the 32nd Annual Summer Pro League on the campus of Long Beach State University.
The Rocky Mountain Revue schedule for the Mavericks is as follows: vs. Houston (July 20, 4 p.m. MDT), vs. Cleveland (July 21, 4 p.m. MDT), vs. Chicago (July 22, 6 p.m. MDT), vs. Phoenix (July 24, 4 p.m. MDT), vs. Memphis (July 25, 8 p.m. MDT) and vs. Portland (July 26, 6 p.m. MDT).
