PROVO, Utah - - In the second day of competition at the BYU Invitational, the University of Utah men's tennis team fared well in doubles as Roeland Brateanu and Tomasz Grzyb won three matches to advance to the doubles final to be held on Saturday afternoon. Gryzb and Brateanu moved past BYU's Dan Battisone and Paul Heapy 8-5 in an afternoon match. They then moved past Jeff Olsen and Alonzo Medina, also of BYU, 8-5. In the evening matchup, Brateanu and Grzyb defeated Utah State's Jose Lechuga and Anton Rudjuk 8-6. Lechuga and Rudjuk had earlier knocked out the second seed pairing from Boise State, Thomas Schoeck and Mattias Silva 9-8 (7). Grzyb and Brateanu will face top seeded pair Carlos Lozano and Eric Nyman from BYU Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
In singles action, Tyler Poulson faced Mattias Silva in a quarterfinal matchup. He fell 2-6 in the first set, recovered for a second set win at 6-3, then dropped a third set tiebreaker at 6-7 (4). Daniel Lohff moved to the consolation finals with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Anton Rudjuk of BYU. Jemre Okre of Idaho State withdrew from the match against Lohff, therefore Lohff will meet the winner of Saturday's match between Roeland Brateanu and Alonzo Medina of BYU.
