Palo Alto, Calif.- - The University of Utah men's tennis team took on top ranked Stanford Cardinals on Mon. Feb. 25. The Cardinals downed the Utes 6-1 giving Utah their fourth loss on the road.
In singles competition, Stanford's K. J. Hippensteel defeated David Mercier (6-0, 6-3) at the number one position. At the two, Corrie Scheepers beat Stanford's Ryan Haviland (7-5, 6-3). Stanford's David Martin defeated Nik Yip (6-2, 6-3) at the three, Stanford's Sam Warburd downed Daniel Carlsson (6-3, 6-4) at the four, Stanford's Phil Sheng beat Daniel Loff (6-2, 6-0) at the five, and Joe Kao beat Tyler Poulsen (6-1, 6-4) at the six.
In doubles, Stanford's Lipsky/Martin defeated Mercier/Yip (8-4), Stanford's Haviland/Hippensteel beat Carlsson/Poulsen (8-3) and Stanford's Sheng/Warburg downed Scheepers/Tangberg (8-6).
