ST. GEORGE, Utah--Pitcher Heather Bowlin helped herself earn her fifth win of the season by scoring two runs and knocking in two more as the Utes defeated Pac-10 foe Oregon, 7-2, at the Canyons Complex on Friday afternoon. This is the Utes (9-19) second win of day one at the Red Desert Classic. The Utes face Eastern Kentucky and No. 13 Washington on Saturday and Stanford on Sunday.
Utah scored first in the game after Bowlin drew a bases loaded walk that brought home Michelle Larsen and put the Utes up, 1-0 after one. Oregon answered with a home run and RBI single in the second to take a 2-1 lead. In the Utah third, Lindsey Trevis blasted out her first home run of the year to score Niki Hayhurst and help the Utes retake the lead, 3-2.
The Utes added another run in the fourth when Molly McLean doubled to left field to score Bowlin, who had singled and stole second earlier in the inning (4-2). Leading 5-2, Bowlin scored another run for the Utes in the sixth after she banged out her first homer over the left center wall (6-2). Utah added one more run that inning to create the final score of 7-2.
Bowlin (5-7) picks up her fifth win for Utah. The sophomore threw a complete game and struck out three while allowing seven hits. At the plate, Lindsey Trevis was two-of-four with a home run and two RBI.
