Fulleton, Calif. - The University of Utah softball team dropped two games today at the Kia Classic. The Utes lost to Louisiana-Lafayette, 9-1 and lost 4-0 to Washington on Thurs., Mar. 14 in Fullerton, Calif. Utah is currently 10-23-0 overall, 0-0 in MWC play.
In the first game vs. the Rajin Cajuns, Angie Kenney recorded two hits, a double and an RBI for the Utes. Jenifer Pursell pitched 5.2 innings, giving up eight hits, eight earned runs and five walks in 31 batters faced. Pursell moves to 4-12 on the season. As a team, Utah stranded nine on the bases and manufactured just one run on seven hits in 25 at bats.
For Louisiana-Lafayette, Alana Addison went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three runs and five RBI. Melissa Coronado recorded the win and moves to 4-1 on the season.
Game two saw Utah manage just five hits in the game. Washington tallied seven hits in 30 at bats. Heather Bowlin took the loss for the Utes, she moves to 6-9 overall.
UP NEXT: On Wed., Mar. 20, Utah is back at home taking on in-state rival Utah State at 3:00 p.m. On Fri., Mar. 29, the Utes open MWC play, hosting the Aztecs of San Diego State in a doubleheader contest at 1:00 p.m. Utah continues MWC play facing UNLV on Sat., Mar. 30 at 3:00 p.m at Ute Field.
