SALT LAKE CITY--Utah pitcher Mitch Maio was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 25. This marks the second time the Salt Lake native has been recognized by the league this season.

Maio recorded a save and a win last week as the Utes took two-of-three from UNLV in Las Vegas. The senior right hander entered game two in the ninth inning with a runner on second base and closed out an 8-6 victory by forcing the final UNLV batter to ground out to third. Maio got the starting nod in game three vs. the Rebels and earned his fourth victory of the year after throwing a complete game and tying his career high of 11 strikeouts. Maio allowed just five hits and three runs, while walking none in the 5-3 win.
