SALT LAKE CITY - Utah forward Britton Johnsen has been named the United State Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) District VIII Player of the Year.
Johnsen, 6-9 junior from Murray, Utah, is racking up the postseason accolades this season. Johnsen was also named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year by the league's coaches and first team NABC/Pontiac All-District 13.
Johnsen averaged 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game to lead the Runnin' Utes in the regular season. He has scored in double figures in 23 of the 27 games while shooting 50.2 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three-point range.
Utah (20-7, 10-4 MWC) opens Mountain West Conference play on Thursday night in the quarterfinals against Colorado State at 6:00 p.m. (PST) in Las Vegas.
