SALT LAKE CITY--Utah pitcher Mitch Maio was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 6. In his first start on the mound, Maio threw a complete game to lead Utah past Washington, 8-3. Maio, who has primarily been used as a reliever, struck out a career-high 11 batters and only wobbled in the fourth inning when he allowed three runs. The Salt Lake native is 3-0 with two saves and a 2.66 ERA in his eight appearances this season.
This is the first time Maio has received Pitcher of the Week honors. He joins teammates Brit Pannier and Cheyenne Rushton as Utes who have been honored by the conference this year.
