SALT LAKE CITY--For the second straight week, Utah right hander Mitch Maio was voted Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week. This marks a season-high third time the senior has been honored by the league.
Maio recorded a complete game victory last week as the Utes took two-of-three from San Diego State in conference play. The senior allowed five hits and one run, while holding the Aztecs to a .156 batting average and tying his career high of 11 strikeouts for the second time this season. In his last two conference starts, Maio has held opponents to a .161 batting average with 22 strikeouts.
On the season, the Salt Lake native is 5-1 with three saves and a 3.46 ERA. Maio is tied for the team lead with 45 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .237 batting average.
"I'm excited for Mitch," said head coach Tim Esmay. "He has earned every honor he has received, and hopefully he can continue his hot streak."
