COMING UP: The Utes will travel to Logan, Utah on Tues., Apr. 2, matching-up with Utah State at 3:00 p.m. On Thurs., Apr. 4, Utah will host Pacific at 3:00 p.m. The Utes will take on the New Mexico Lobos on Fri., Apr. 5 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) and Colorado State on Sat., Apr. 6 at 12:00 p.m. (DH).
A QUICK LOOK AT UTAH: Utah opened its conference season last week splitting with San Diego State and UNLV on the road. Currently, the Utes are 12-28-0 overall, 0-2-2 in MWC play. Utah lost 9-1 in the first game and won 4-2 in the late game at San Diego State on Fri., Mar. 29. On Sat., Mar. 30, the Utes defeated the UNLV Rebels, 9-5 and lost the late game 7-1.
Utah has already faced 10 teams this season that made it to the NCAA Tournament last year. The Utes will face three more teams this season that made it to post-season play in 2001. Utah has faced 21 teams that were ranked or received votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll. Overall, the Utes are 1-19 on the season vs. teams that are ranked or have received votes.

SCOUTING UTAH STATE: The Utah State softball team is currently 3-28 overall. Most recently, the Aggies were swept by No. 7 Cal-State Fullerton, 13-0, 11-2 and 2-0 on Fri., Mar. 29 and Sat. Mar. 30 in Logan, Utah.
Breanne Smith leads the team with a .278 batting average and totals 22 hits, eight runs, four doubles, one triple, three home runs and nine RBI in 79 at bats. Teammate Heather Curtis averages .245 on the season. Kristin Hommel leads Utah State on the mound with a 3.17 ERA in 75.0 innings pitched. As a team, the Aggies have a .183 batting average and a 4.38 ERA.
Debbie Bilbao (Iowa, 1999) is in her first season as Utah State's head coach and her first season as a head coach overall.
SCOUTING PACIFIC: The Pacific Tigers are currently 24-12 overall. Most recently, the Tigers swept Cal Poly, 9-1, 2-0 and 4-1 on Fri., Mar. 29 and Sat. Mar. 30 in Stockton, Calif.
Barbara Moody leads the team with a .395 batting average and totals 47 hits, 30 runs, 20 doubles, one triple, two homers and 23 RBI in 119 at bats. Teammate Cindy Ball averages .358 on the season and has racked up 39 hits, 17 runs, seven doubles, and six home runs for 28 RBI in 109 at bats. Ball leads Pacific on the mound with a 1.03 ERA in 156.0 innings pitched. As a team, the Tigers have a .277 batting average and a 1.63 ERA.
Brian Kolze is in his 10th season at the helm of the Pacific softball program. He has a 271-230-1 career record.
SCOUTING NEW MEXICO: The New Mexico softball team is currently 7-18-1 overall, 1-1 in MWC play. Most recently, New Mexico split with Colorado State, losing game one, 11-1 and winning game two, 2-1 on Sat., Mar. 30 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Leading the Lobos is Kelly Glass. She has a .372 batting average and totals 31 hits, 10 runs, one double and four RBI in 82 at bats. Teammate Kim Korsak averages .310 on the season and has racked up nine hits, four runs, two doubles and seven RBI in 29 at bats. Lauren McCoy leads the Lobos on the mound with a 4.45 ERA in 32.1 innings pitched. As a team, New Mexico has a .233 batting average and a 5.48 ERA.
Susan Craig is in her 25th season at the helm of the New Mexico softball program. She has a 657-557-1 career record.
SCOUTING COLORADO STATE: The Colorado State softball team is currently 14-17 overall, 1-1 in MWC play. Most recently, the Rams split with New Mexico, winning game one, 11-1 and losing game two, 2-1 on Sat., Mar. 30 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Leading the Rams is Ricki Walker. She has a .323 batting average and totals 32 hits, 11 runs, five doubles, two homers and 15 RBI in 99 at bats. Teammate Amanda Kocis averages .314 on the season and has racked up 27 hits, 10 runs, four doubles and 13 RBI in 86 at bats. Melanie Mahoney leads CSU on the mound with a 1.74 ERA in 92.2 innings pitched. As a team, the Rams have a .270 batting average and a 1.95 ERA.
Mary Yori is in her 2nd season at the helm of the CSU softball program. She has a 459-158 career record.
UP NEXT: On Wed., Apr. 10, Utah hosts Southern Utah in a doubleheader match-up at 1:30 p.m. in Salt Lake City. The Utes will take on in-state rival BYU on Sat., Apr. 13 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) at Ute Field. Utah hits the road on Tues., Apr. 16, facing the Utah State Aggies in a single-game at 3:00 p.m. in Logan, Utah. On Thurs., Apr. 18, the Utes will host Cal-State Northridge for a single-game contest at 3:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City. Utah will face the UNLV Rebels on Fri., Apr. 19 at 1:30 p.m. (DH) and the San Diego State Aztecs on Sat., Apr. 20 at 12:00 p.m. (DH) at Ute Field. On Tues., Apr. 23, the Utes take on the Utah State Aggies in a single-game contest at 3:00 p.m. in Salt Lake City.
HEAD COACH MONA STEVENS: Mona Stevens, who has built a reputation as one of the top coaches in the nation on both the national and international levels, is in her fifth season as head coach at Utah.
Stevens has the best winning percentage in school history. She currently posts a 199-142-1 (.586) career overall record and a 77-49-1 (.617) career conference record in five seasons. Her 2000 team was the NCAA Region 1 Tournament runner-up, and placed third in the NCAA Regional Tournament in 1997. Stevens was selected as the 2000 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year and posted her 150th career win at the NCAA Region 1 Tournament with a 4-1 win over Mississippi State on May 20.
2002 UTAH RANKINGS IN THE MWC: Utah, as a team leads the MWC in hits (242), and at bats (1032). The Utes are second in doubles (33), total bases (323) batters struck out (163), innings pitched (256.1) and third in sac bunts (28), home runs (14), walks (85) and triples (3). Utah is fourth in batters struck out looking (29), opposing batting average (.279), ERA (3.14) and on base percentage (.306), and fifth in RBI (89), stolen bases (27), batting average (.234), slugging percentage (.313) and runs scored (103). Individually, 11 Utah players ranked among the top 10 in the MWC statistical leaders a combined 57 times.
