SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team ended their two match losing streak by downing UNLV 5-2 on Sat., Apr. 13. The Utes move to 13-10 on the year and 2-3 in the Mountain West Conference. Next for the men's tennis team is the MWC Championship Tournament in Las Vegas, Nev. The tournament will begin on Thur., Apr. 25 and will last until Sat., Apr., 27.
In singles competition, senior David Mercier defeated UNLV's Thomas Schneiter (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) at the one position. At the two, senior Corrie Scheepers downed The Rebels' Romain Tug (6-3, 6-1). UNLV's Aviram Salomon beat senior Nik Yip (6-3, 6-4) at the three position. Daniel Carlsson defeated UNLV's Thomas Michaud (6-3, 4-6, 6-3), Tyler Poulson beat The Rebels' Leslie Eisinga (6-7, 6-2, 6-2) and UNLV's Andrew Maurer defeated Daniel Lohff (3-6, 6-1, 7-6).
Mercier/Yip defeated The Rebels' Salomon/Eisinga (9-7) at the one position. UNLV's Schneiter/Maurer defeated Carlsson/Poulson (8-3) at the two and Lohff/Scheepers defeated UNLV's Tug/Michaud (8-4) at the three.
