SALT LAKE CITY - Five Runnin' Utes were honored as the Mountain West announced the 2001-02 Academic All-Conference team for men's basketball today. Lance Allred, Trace Caton, Nick Jacobson, Martin Osimani and Eric Osmundson represented Utah. Utah and BYU shared the conference lead for the most honorees.
Utah's five selections to the academic all-conference team were the most ever during Rick Majerus' tenure. The Runnin' Utes have had an academic all-conference honoree every year under Majerus; nine times they have had multiple academic all-conference selections. In all, Utah players have earned academic all-conference recognition 36 times since 1989-90.
To be eligible for selection to the Mountain West academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at a member institution, maintained a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
