Utah Completes Day One Of The ITA Mountain Region Championships

The University of Utah men's tennis team concluded the first day of the ITA Mountain Region Championships.
In the qualifying round of the singles, sophomore Tomasz Grzyb downed Northern Arizona's Ronson Taylor (6-2, 6-1), while freshman Miron Mann defeated Utah State's Hannos Schenk (6-3, 6-4). Utah State's Hungsoon Park defeated freshman Jason Yap (6-3, 6-3). Freshman Ryan Scott fell to Montana State's Adam Stutts (6-4, 6-7, 7-5) and Utah State's Jason Trask downed freshman Dantley Young (6-1, 6-0).
In doubles play, the Utes fared well. In the first round Grzyb teamed up with Yap to defeat Boise State's Klemann/Roghaar (9-8). Scott/Young fell to Montana State's Carl/Gebicki (8-6).
In the second round of doubles, Grsyb/Yap beat Brigham Young's Bradshaw/Sperry (8-5). After a bye in the first round, senior Roeland Brateanu and Mann downed Montana State's Olsen/Stutts (8-4).
Competition continues Thursday with two rounds of the singles main draw.
