TEMPE - The University of Utah men's tennis team continued a road trip through Arizona, facing the Arizona State Sun Devils, ranked 40th in the nation, in Tempe late Monday afternoon. The Utes were outdone 6-1 by ASU, and with the loss, the Utes move to 3-3 on the season.
The Utes came out strong in a doubles match between Roeland Brateanu and Nick Coutts facing Olivier Charrion and Chris Stewart from ASU, who are ranked seventeenth in the nation in doubles. The pair from Utah kept it close, but fell short in the end, losing 9-7 to the Sun Devil pair.
In the singles matches, Tomasz Grzyb earned the only point for Utah on the day with his win over Ryan Eveloff in the no. 6 spot. Grzyb, a freshman from Nepean, Canada, won 6-3, 6-2. Tyler Poulson extended his match to three sets against Chris Stewart in the no. 2 position, but Stewart slipped past him, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
