COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Senior pitcher Jen Pursell was honored by the league by being named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 25. This is the second time the California native has received the distinction.
At the Softball by the Beach Tournament last weekend, Pursell led the Utes to a 2-3 record by recording both of Utah's wins to go with a loss. In 21.0 innings of work, the senior allowed just one earned run, while ringing up 13 batters.
The Rancho Cucamongo, Calif., native began the weekend by grabbing an 8-3 victory over San Diego. In the win, Pursell allowed no earned runs. Her follow up performance was equally impressive, but unfortunately resulted in a 2-0 loss for Utah. In the loss, she allowed just one earned run off four hits, while striking out five. Pursell's best performance came in a 1-0 victory over Cal State Northridge, where she fanned seven batters and walked one while scattering six hits.
On the season, Pursell is 4-4 with a 2.72 ERA. She has recorded 30 strikeouts in 46.1 innings of work. Pursell joins Heather Bowlin and Lynsey Wall as Utes honored this season by the conference office.
