SAN DIEGO - Today's baseball game between Utah and San Diego State at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego was suspended due to rain with Utah trailing 10-5 and the Aztecs batting in the bottom of the sixth inning.
In accordance with Mountain West Conference rules, the game will be completed with the continuation scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m. Sunday morning prior to the regularly scheduled third game of the series.
The Aztecs scored first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first on a two-RBI double.
The Utes countered with three runs in the third on three RBI by junior Cort Wilson (sacrifice fly), senior Mike Basham (double) and senior Jake Jordison (sacrifice fly).
Utah upped its advantage to 4-2 in the fourth on a solo homer by Mike Westfall.
Playing in intermittent light rain, SDSU regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single and a two-run double.
The Utes knotted the score at 5-5 with a run in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Khoury.
With the rain starting again, San Diego State rallied for five runs in the bottom of the sixth. Landon Burt's RBI double scored a pair of runs, and he scored later in the inning on a balk.
After the Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs, Jordan Swaydan delivered a two-RBI single to right to give the Aztecs a 10-5 lead.
With the rain coming down heavier, the game was halted at that point with Aztec runners first and third and two outs.
SDSU's Joe Carque threw the first six innings for San Diego while reliever Dan Simonsen, who allowed the first three SDSU runs in the sixth, is the pitcher of record for the Utes.
Following the completion of this suspended game Sunday morning, the two teams will play the finale of the series.
