SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Senior righthander Jen Pursell was named to the Capital Classic All-Tournament Team on Sunday, March 23. The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native made two appearances in the tourney, recording a 1-1 record.
In her first game, Pursell set a new career-high by striking out 10 batters. She allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, and only walked one in the effort. Unfortunately the Utes fell in the bottom of the ninth, 3-2, to the Fighting Illini.
During her second outing, Pursell was equally good. She tossed a complete-game shutout against Sacramento State. In the game, she allowed just one hit and recorded five strikeouts. Overall she stranded five Hornet runners, three of which reached base on Ute errors.
