SALT LAKE CITY - Utah center fielder Matt Ciaramella, a sophomore from Salt Lake City, has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week after leading the Utes to a 3-2 record last week.
Ciaramella hit .579 (11-for-19) on the week, including a 9-for-12 performance from the plate vs. MWC-leading UNLV last week.
In the opening game of the series vs. UNLV, Ciaramella was 2-for-4 from the plate. He had a 4-for-5 outing with two doubles and three RBI in the Utes' 7-2 win over the No. 21-ranked Rebels. He was also 3-for-3 with two walks in a game three loss to UNLV.
To start the week, Ciaramella was 3-for-7 with two doubles in a sweep of Southern Utah.
