At The Plate
The Utes host Utah State in a single game beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Ute Field on Wednesday, April 9. This is the first of two meetings for the in-state rivals. Utah will travel to Logan, Utah, on April 22 for a single game match up.
Recapping The Last Outing
The Utes had to cancel their five games scheduled for last weekend because of a snow storm. Utah opened league play with a doubleheader split against Brigham Young on Saturday, March 29. The Utes opened the first game with a 5-0 lead, but fell apart defensively as they went on to lose 12-6. In the second game, Utah redeemed itself by snapping the Cougars' 12-game winning streak with a 7-2 victory. Heather Bowlin allowed just three hits in the win, while Lynsey Wall ripped her third home run of the season.
On Deck
Utah travels to Fort Collins, Colo., to face Colorado State on April 11 and to Albuquerque, N.M., to challenge New Mexico on April 13. The games are the first of a six-game road swing for Utah before returning home to play on April 25 against Santa Barbara.
Scouting The Aggies
Utah State also sat through the Utah snow storm last weekend. The Aggies were suppose to face Long Beach State, which was scheduled to stop by Ute field on Friday before heading to Logan, Utah, but the inclement weather postponed USU's games against LBS. Earlier in the week USU dropped two games to BYU in Provo, Utah.
Quoting Stevens
"We are looking forward to finally playing again. It's tough since we've lost so many home games because there is such an advantage to playing at home."
Reverse Fortune
In its first 14 games, Utah was hitting .213 while compiling a 2.81 ERA. In the past 14 games, Utah is swinging for a .278 average and boasting a 1.69 ERA. Another note on the first and last 14 is Utah only had 39 RBI and 79 hits in the first 14 outings, compared to 54 RBI and 110 hits in the last 14.
