SALT LAKE CITY - Jonas Langvad, a 6-9, 207-pound forward from Denmark has signed a letter of intent with the Utah men's basketball team. The announcement came today from Ute head coach Rick Majerus.
Langvad has played the last two years in the Danish League. In 2002-03, Langvad averaged 19.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game for SISU Hellerup Kopenhagen. He also shot 55 percent from the field, 37 percent from three-point range and 82 percent from the free throw line.
Langvad played for the Danish Under-20 National Team in 2000 and the Danish National Team in 2001. He was named the MVP of the Danish National Cup Finals in 2000.
"Jonas is a good shooter and he's got good bounce," said Majerus. "The way he plays the game is kind of a cross between Hanno M?tt?l? and Keith Van Horn. He's a good player and we're excited to have him."
In making his decision to sign with Utah, Langvad said, "The education I was looking for is available and is among the top in the country. It is a great basketball program and it's going to be a great challenge for all four of my years at the school. It is a program that shares the same goals and dreams as me. The coaches and staff are wonderful people, and the players are good people I feel comfortable around."
