SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah volleyball team fell to 5-4 on the season with a 1-3 loss (24-30, 30-24, 21-30, 30-32) to Nevada at Crimson Court tonight, despite the fact that the Utes edged the Wolf Pack in nearly every statistical category.

The Utes hit for just .123 on the match, though the Wolf Pack didn't fare much better at .196. Utah out-blocked (15-10) and out-dug (57-54) Nevada, and finished with four service aces, compared to the three of the Wolf Pack. Utah also committed 12 service errors, while Nevada had 13.

"They came at us from the start and we didn't respond," Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We didn't play smart and we didn't have enough energy - we were flat. We never really got in the match."

Senior All-America candidate Kim Turner led the Utes with 17 kills and 11 digs, her third double-double of the season. She also added seven blocks. Sophomores Shelly Sommerfeldt and Danielle Leichliter added 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Senior libero Jackie Morrill posted a match-high 16 digs, while junior setter Kelsie Kartchner finished with 35 assists. Freshman Amie Toone had a career-high seven blocks, followed by junior Lyndsey Henderson with six.

Game one was played close throughout, with nine ties before Nevada pulled away at the end, winning 30-24. The Utes committed five service errors on the game and hit for .222, compared to the .278 of the Wolf Pack. Turner had five kills on the game, followed by Sommerfeldt with four.

Game two was similar to game one, with the Utes pulling away late for the 30-24 win. Utah hit for .135 on the game and held Nevada to .026. The Utes also out-blocked the Wolf Pack 6-1.

After an early tie in game three, Nevada went on a 6-0 run and never looked back, building its lead to as many as 11. The Utes hit for -.030, while the Wolf Pack combined for a .316 hitting percentage. Utah was also out-blocked 6-1 on the game.

In the fourth and deciding game, Utah led early before the Wolf Pack used a 13-3 run to take a 20-11 lead. The Utes battled back, going on an 8-3 run to cut the lead to four (23-19). Utah then tied the game twice at 29 and 30, but Nevada proved too much and won 32-30. Turner had six kills and five digs on the game that saw Utah out-block the Wolf Pack 5-1.
