COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah sophomore forward Richard Chaney has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Chaney averaged 20.5 points and 4.5 rebounds last week as the Utes defeated Pepperdine (76-69) and Whitworth (71-49). This is Chaney's first career Player of the Week honor.
Chaney, a Los Angeles (Verbum Dei HS) native, scored a career-best 27 points on 10-of-16 field goals, including a career-high 5-of-7 three pointers, and grabbed five rebounds in the victory over Pepperdine. In the Utes final nonconference game of the regular season, he scored 14 points, pulled down four rebounds and recorded a career-high three steals in the win over Whitworth. In the two games last week, Chaney shot 51.7 percent (15-of-29) from the field, 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from beyond the arc and averaged 4.5 rebounds.
