LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Ute women's soccer team recorded its biggest win of the season with a 2-1 win Friday over No. 7 UCLA at Drake Stadium.

Utah won its fourth consecutive game to improve to 7-2-1. The Bruins, who had reeled off three consecutive wins over Top 25 teams and were 3-0 at home, fell to 6-3-0.

The Utes' first goal came on their first legitimate scoring opportunity of the night 31:19 in off a corner kick. Kim Lloyd, a junior transfer from UC Irvine, sent the ball in from the right side to Melissa Wayman, who punched it in from five yards out.

The Bruins tied the game 1-1 in the 51st minute as Iris Mora blasted a shot from the top of the box right side past Ute keeper Ashley Mason.

Utah took the lead back at the 65:50 mark when Whitney Dorsey slipped behind the defense and took a pass from Lloyd. Dorsey slotted a low pass in the middle of the field to Chelsea Card, a freshman from San Clemente, Calif. Card put it past charging UCLA goalkeeper Valerie Henderson from 10 yards out. It was Card's fourth goal of the season and her third in the last three games.

"Kim got the ball and made an excellent pass to Dorsey, who put the ball right to me," said Card. "I took the shot and it went right between the goalkeepers' legs."

Mason made eight saves in goal for the Utes, who were outshot 15-4 by UCLA. The Bruins also had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"It's exciting to see the team improve and win a game like this," said Ute head coach Rich Manning. "We defended aggressively, had great leadership and converted on the few chances we had. This is a terrific accomplishment to win over a great team like UCLA on its home field."

Utah finishes out its West Coast trip at San Diego on Sunday at Noon (PDT).
