> Utah (11-0, 7-0 MWC) finished its regular season ranked No. 5 and 6, respectively, in the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Coaches polls. The Utes, who are ranked No. 6 in the latest Bowl Championship Series standings, are all but assured of an invitation to a BCS bowl. Utah will learn its postseason destination on Sunday, Dec. 5 when the final BCS standings are officially announced at 3:00 p.m. MT.
> The 2004 Utes finished as the outright Mountain West Conference champions for the second straight season to become the only back-to-back outright champions in conference history. With a 7-0 MWC record, Utah is just the second team in the six-year history of the MWC to go undefeated in league play.
> Utah Heisman semifinalist Alex Smith was named one of three finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award on Nov. 23. With his regular season complete, Smith remains at or near the top of the national statistical charts for quarterbacks. Complete information on Smith can be found on page 5.
> Utah is 3-0 against BCS teams this season, including wins over bowl eligible Texas A&M and North Carolina. The Utes clobbered now No. 22 ranked Texas A&M (41-21), Arizona (23-6) and North Carolina (46-16). The Tarheels went on to upset Miami the next week.
> The Utes are 5-1 against BCS teams in two years under head coach Urban Meyer. In 2003, Utah beat California and Oregon and lost by two at Texas A&M. With Alex Smith as the starting quarterback, Utah is 5-0 vs. the BCS in the last two years.
