Quickly On Utah
Utah (2-1) takes on Furman (2-2) in the 4th/6th place game of the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. (AST). It will be the Utes' third game in 42 hours in the tournament. In the first two rounds of the Great Alaska Shootout, Utah fell to No. 22 Washington (78-71) in the quarterfinals on Thursday night, then bounced back to defeat High Point (78-69) on Friday afternoon in the consolation semifinals.

Sophomore forward center Andrew Bogut (7-0, 240) leads the Utes in scoring (18.3 ppg), rebounding (11.0 rpg), blocked shots (8) and field goal percentage (60.0). Senior guard Marc Jackson (6-1, 175) is second in scoring (16.3 ppg), hitting 63.6 percent of his three-point attempts (7-of-11) and 88.0 percent of his free throws (22-of-25). Sophomore forward Justin Hawkins (6-5, 220) is third on the team in scoring (15.3 ppg) and second in rebounding (5.3 rpg). Junior guard Tim Drisdom (6-3, 210) leads the Utes in assists (5.3 apg) while scoring 6.7 points per game and shooting 91.7 percent (11-of-12) at the free throw line.

From The Training Room
Junior forward Richard Chaney has a sprained right foot and is questionable for the game against Furman on Saturday.

Utes Playing In Another Early Season Tournament
This marks the seventh time in the last 11 years that Utah has competed in an exempted early season tournament. The Utes have also competed in the Maui Invitational (1994, 1998, 2002), Puerto Rico Shootout (2000) and the Preseason NIT (1999, 2003). Last season in the Preseason NIT, Utah advanced to the semifinals and the third place game at Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Utes have played in the Great Alaska Shootout once before. In 1988 under Lynn Archibald, Utah went 1-2 in the tournament, losing to Seton Hall (86-68), defeating Iona (109-75) and falling to Florida (77-68).

Scouting Furman
The Paladins are 2-2 on the season and split their first two games in the Great Alaska Shootout. Furman lost to Minnesota 84-69 in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout on Wednesday, then bounced back to defeat Alaska-Anchorage 81-71 in the consolation semifinals on Friday. Before heading north, Furman opened its season with a 64-52 win over Campbell at home on Nov. 19, then lost at Auburn 85-74 on Nov. 22.

Furman, which plays in the Southern Conference, is located in Greenville, S.C., and has an enrollment of 2,630. The Paladins return three starters and nine lettermen from last year's team that went 17-12 overall and placed fourth in the South Division of the Southern Conference with an 8-8 record.

Sophomore forward Quan Prowell (6-8, 210) leads Furman in scoring (13.8 ppg) and rebounds (6.8 rpg). He is also shooting 44.4 percent from three-point range (8-for-18). Sophomore forward Moussa Diagne (6-8, 210) is second in scoring (12.8 ppg). Sophomore guard/forward Robby Bostain (6-3, 185) leads the Paladins is assists (2.8 apg). Bostain, Diagne and Prowell made the all-Southern Conference Freshman team in 2003-04. Prowell was the Freshman of the Year.

Head coach Larry Davis has a 95-114 record in his eighth season at Furman. Last year's 17-12 record marked the Paladins' second winning season in the last three campaigns under Davis.

Game #3 Rewind
Marc Jackson scored 18 points as Utah beat High Point 78-69 in the second round of the Great Alaska Shootout on Friday.

Andrew Bogut added 16, Bryan Markson had 13 and Justin Hawkins 12 for the Utes (2-1), who shot 25-for-51 from the floor.

The Panthers (1-2) kept the game close through much of the second half, coming within three points, 52-49, after an 11-2 run capped by Akeem Scott's two free throws with 12:12 to play.

But Utah was able to hold onto its lead down the stretch on the shooting of Hawkins and two key three-point plays by Bogut.

High Point was 23-for-55 from the floor, including shooting 9-for-23 from behind the three-point line.

Utah outrebounded the Panthers 35-26, with Bogut pulling in 11.

The Utes were 7-for-12 from behind the three-point line and made 21 of 27 of their free throws.

The Panthers were led by Akeem's 20 points. Danny Gathings and Jerry Echenique added 16 points apiece.

Utah jumped out to a 17-7 lead on an 11-0 run and led 39-32 at the half.

Utah Game #3 Notables
? Andrew Bogut had his 20th career double-figure rebounds game, his 25th double-figure scoring game and his 17th career double-double. He has had a double-double in all three games this year. Bogut also tied his career high with 14 field goal attempts.

? Bryant Markson had a career-high 13 points against High Point, bettering his previous best of 12 against Weber State on Jan. 3, 2003.

? Marc Jackson had the 16th double-figure scoring game of his career. He has scored in double figures in all three games this season.

? Justin Hawkins scored in double figures for the third time in three games this season. He now has seven double-figure scoring games in his career. Hawkins also had a career-best five assists.

? By holding High Point to 69 points, Utah has not allowed an opponent to score 80 points in 131 consecutive games that have ended in regulation. The last team to score 80 points on the Utes in a 40-minute game was Wyoming (88) on Feb. 28, 2000 in Laramie, Wyo.
