Reviewing Last Week
Utah opened its 2004 campaign at the Southern Utah Tournament in St. George, Utah. The Utes dropped their first game to Loyola Marymount (4-2), but won their next three against Southern Utah (10-1), UC Riverside (8-0) and Loyola Marymount (10-9).
Devina Quintero and Glennis Donnelly led the way for Utah at the plate, knocking four home runs each. Both players had hits in each of the four games, including three three-hit games. Brianna Gourdin recorded a career-high nine strikeouts against Southern Utah, while freshman Samantha Schroeder threw a five-inning shutout against UC Riverside to lead the Utes in the circle. Utah tied the school record with five team home runs against LMU on Sunday.
At The Plate
The Utes travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the UNLV Softball Classic, Feb. 13-15. Utah begins the Classic against Cal Poly on Friday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a match up against No. 22 Oregon State at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, Utah faces No. 17 Louisiana State at 1:30 p.m. and then No. 13 DePaul later that day at 6:30 p.m. The Utes conclude the tourney versus UC Riverside on Sunday at noon. All times are Pacific Standard Time.

"We really hit the ball well last weekend. Our pitching still has some things to work on, but that should come with time.
"We will face some very good teams this weekend in Las Vegas. Hopefully, our momentum from last weekend will carry over to this weekend."
Ute Notables
Through Utah's first four games last season, it had recorded one team home run compared to 12 this season through four games. The Utes are outhitting their opponents .321-.242 and outpitching them 3.36-7.74. Utah swiped 8-of-9 stolen base attempts and recorded 30 runs last weekend at the SUU Tourney.
