The Utah baseball team (0-3) travels to Orlando, Fla., for a three-game series against the University of Central Florida (3-2).
Utah Update
The Utes dropped all three games at the Coca-Cola Classic in Surprise, Ariz., last weekend. Utah opened the season with an 8-6 loss to Oregon State on Friday. First baseman Michael Westfall (2-for-5) and third baseman Cort Wilson (2-for-4) each tabbed multi-hit games for the Utes. Sophomore left-hander Jason Price suffered the loss on the mound. In five innings, he gave up two runs on five hits while striking out three.
On Saturday, No. 7 Arizona State shutout the Utes 11-0. Junior Doug Mackay suffered the loss on the mound, falling to 0-1 on the season. The right-hander pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits. He struck out six and walked four. Westfall was the only Ute with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 on the night. The other Utah hits came from Wilson, junior Matt Ciaramella and redshirt freshman Jake Waldram.
Utah closed out the tournament with a 12-7 loss to Gonzaga on Sunday. Junior Clay Westmoreland took the loss on the mound, falling to 0-1 on the season. He gave up five runs on four hits. Freshman Eric Schaler got the start, pitching one inning and giving up seven runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked two. Freshman Travis Kohn pitched five nearly flawless innings, striking out six and giving up just two hits and no runs. Sophomore shortstop Ryan Khoury and senior outfielder Eric Chevalier led Utah offensively, both going 3-for-4 at the plate. Westfall was the only other Ute with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.
Scouting the Opposition
UCF Golden Knights (3-2) - UCF went 1-2 last weekend in a three-game home stand against No. 2 LSU. The Golden Nights lost their home opener Friday night 4-3 in the 10th inning. Saturday UCF suffered a 17-4 loss to the Tigers, but bounced back on Sunday with a come-from-behind victory over No.2 LSU, 6-5. The victory over the Tigers was the second all-time for the Golden Nights vs. a top-five team and the first ever vs. a team ranked in the top three.

Westfall Named to Coca-Cola Classic All-Tournament Team
Senior first baseman Michael Westfall, Jr. was named to the Coca-Cola Classic all-tournament team after hitting .500 (6-for-12) and scoring three runs in the three games. He also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Chevalier's Hitting Streak Snapped
Senior Eric Chevalier, who entered the season on a 23-game hitting streak, went 0-for-4 in Saturday's game against Arizona State, thus ending the streak. He responded by going 3-for-4 on Sunday in the Utes' loss to Gonzaga.
Kohn Impressive in Collegiate Debut Against Gonzaga
In his collegiate debut last Sunday, freshman Travis Kohn pitched five scoreless innings, giving up two hits. The right-hander from Quenemo, Kan., struck out six and posted an opponent batting average of .125.
Utes Picked to Finish Fourth in MWC
Utah tied with New Mexico to finish fourth in the Mountain West Conference in the preseason coaches poll. The Utes and the Lobos collected 12 points apiece in the poll. UNLV, last year's regular-season and tournament champion, received four of the six first-place votes and collected 24 points to capture the top spot in the poll, followed by San Diego State with 22 points. Brigham Young earned 15 points to place third. Air Force ranked sixth with five points.
On the Road Again
The Utes will play 15 more road games before hosting Brigham Young for a three-game series Thursday-Saturday, March 25-27, at Franklin Covey Field.
Franklin Covey Field
Utah plays the majority of its home games at state-of-the-art Franklin Covey Field (15,500). The 13,000-seat facility (not including the general admission area) also serves as the home to Salt Lake's AAA baseball team, the Stingers, an affiliate of the Anaheim Angels.

The Utes travel to New Orleans, La., for a three-game series at Tulane next Friday-Sunday, Feb. 27-29. Friday's game starts at 6 p.m. (CDT), while Saturday's game begins at 2 p.m. (CDT) and Sunday's game starts at 1 p.m. (CDT).
